Up Strum Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Up Strum is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who take part in our music lessons. Our tutors work within school environments and recognise that the safety and wellbeing of children must always come first.

Our approach

Up Strum will:

  • Follow the safeguarding and child protection procedures of each school in which we work.

  • Ensure tutors undertake appropriate and regular safeguarding and child protection training.

  • Ensure tutors working with children have the appropriate DBS checks in place.

  • Maintain professional and appropriate boundaries with pupils at all times.

  • Treat all children with respect and provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for music lessons.

  • Never promise confidentiality to a child where a safeguarding concern has been raised.

Reporting a concern

If a tutor has any concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child, the concern will be reported promptly to the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or appropriate member of the school's safeguarding team, in accordance with the school's safeguarding procedures. Tutors will not attempt to investigate safeguarding concerns themselves.

If a child makes a disclosure, the tutor will listen carefully, avoid asking leading questions, reassure the child appropriately and report the information to the DSL as soon as possible.

Any immediate risk to a child's safety will be treated as a matter of urgency.

Working with schools

As Up Strum tuition takes place within schools, our tutors are expected to familiarise themselves with and follow the safeguarding arrangements of the individual school, including procedures for reporting concerns.

Up Strum will cooperate fully with schools and relevant safeguarding professionals where concerns arise.

Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated where necessary to reflect current safeguarding guidance and good practice.
